200 tourists from Bratislava, Vienna arrive in Split by train

About 200 tourists from Slovakia and Austria arrived in Split on Saturday by train on the Bratislava-Vienna-Split route and were welcomed by the state secretary at the Tourism Ministry, Tonči Glavina, who said the expectations of this tourist season were very optimistic.

The train will operate twice a week until 11 September and more than 4,000 tickets have been sold in Slovakia and Austria.

Speaking of the summer season, Glavina said it was necessary to continue to vaccinate against COVID-19 not just tourism workers but the rest of the population too. "We expect this tourist season to be significantly better than last year."

He said EU policies until 2050 would focus on passenger rail transport. "That will be essential for tourism and the Croatian government is working on that a lot, and one can expect in the next dozen years major investments in the development of passenger rail transport to make our tourism even more competitive."

Croatian Railways executive Željko Ukić said the company would utilise EU funds and loans to procure 40 new trains in the next three years, and announced the launch of a Budapest-Split train route as of 3 July.
