A €17.1 million contract to upgrade the quality of accommodation and facilities of the Minerva Hotel was signed in the Varaždinske Toplice spa on Wednesday by the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Nikolina Brnjac, and the Director of the Special Hospital for Medical Rehabilitation, Denis Kovačić.

Nearly €40 million has so far been invested in this hospital through EU-funded projects to develop it into a health tourism centre.

Built over 40 years ago, the Minerva Hotel is slated for an upgrade to a four-star hotel.

The project encompasses the overhaul of indoor and outdoor swimming pools, accommodations, kitchen facilities, and restaurant spaces. Furthermore, it emphasises sustainable energy practices, digitalization, and eco-friendly destination management.

Under the public call, the Ministry allocated €17.1 million or 99.6% in grants, while the hospital needs to contribute €65,300 in own funding.

The Varaždinske Toplice Special Hospital is one of the largest in Croatia, with over 700 staff and 1,000 patients a day.
