As many as 1.9 million tourist arrivals were registered in Croatia from the start of 2018 until 30 April, which was a 10% rise year on year, and the number of overnight stays increased by 9% to 5.1 million, the National Tourist Board (HTZ) said on Wednesday, citing data from the eVisitor and eCrew tourist registration systems. Broken down by region, Istria and Kvarner (broader Rijeka area) registered 1.4 million and 791,000 overnight stays respectively. Split-Dalmatia County followed with 664,000. Broken down by nationality, the largest number of overnight stays were made by the Slovenians (565,000), German passport-holders (559,000) and Austrians (435,000).

HTZ Director Kristjan Stanicic said that the results achieved so far indicated a positive atmosphere for the coming main season.

He said that city break destinations such as Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik were fully affirmed and some 70 regular flight services between Croatian destinations and countries from which a majority of guests arrived in Croatia would be conducive to positive trends. (Hina/FaH)
