The Programme for encouraging education in hospitality and tourism in the school year - Scholarships

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is conducting a Programme for encouraging education in hospitality and tourism in the school year – Scholarships, in collaboration with employers and county Chambers of Trades and Crafts.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has been conducting a scholarship programme for students since 2008 and has, until now, co-financed more than 2000 scholarship holders, for whom more than HRK 14 million was paid; and its goal is to motivate the youth to take on hospitality and tourism professions, raise the education standards and quality of staff, (and with it, the whole tourism sector), as well as creating a quality connection between educational institutions and business companies in tourism.

These are scholarships that the Ministry implements in cooperation with companies, i.e., hotels, tourist agencies and county Chambers of Trades and Crafts, in such a way that every stakeholder participates in the total sum of the scholarship as follows: the employer participates with a minimum of 30 percent, while the Ministry participates with a maximum of 70 percent of the total scholarship.

Based on the said programme, pupils and students studying to work in tourism and hospitality are granted a monthly scholarship of HRK 2,000 in a school/academic year in the period from 1 September 2021 to 30 June 2022.

Immediately after the completion of regular schooling or studying, the partner must conclude a fixed-term Employment Contract or a Trainee Agreement with the scholarship holder. During the receipt of the scholarship, the scholarship holders must take regular internships, regularly enrol in classes/academic years and remain employed with the company for 12 months.

Public invitation to vocational and art high schools for the promotion and strengthening of competencies of vocational professions in tourism - PROMOTION AND STRENGTHENING OF COMPETENCIES OF VOCATIONAL PROFESSIONS IN TOURISM

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is conducting a programme “Promotion of professions - PROMOTION AND STRENGTHENING OF COMPETENCIES OF VOCATIONAL PROFESSIONS FOR TOURISM.” The programme has been implemented since 2009 to strengthen competencies and raise the quality of human resources, pupils of vocational and art high schools by motivating young people to work in tourism, raising the awareness of pupils and teachers on tourism as a multi-sector department, meeting students of vocational schools from other educational sectors that can carry out projects in tourism, connecting educational institutions with the private sector.

The public invitation for the development of projects in tourism and for tourism aims to influence the strengthening of competencies and raising the quality of human resources, i.e., students of vocational high schools by:

motivating young people to work in tourism
raising the awareness of pupils and teachers on tourism as a multi-sector department
cross-sectoral economic integration through the educational process
meeting pupils of vocational schools from other educational sectors that can make a career in tourism
connecting educational institutions with the private sector
encouraging students' project thinking
encouraging the entrepreneurial spirit in students
encouraging teamwork among students

Each year after their conclusion, the interdepartmental Committee selects the three best projects.
