Opatija Nominated for the 'Golden Flower of Europe 2006'

The city of Opatija is nominated as one of the candidates for the award 'Ente Florale'-Golden Flower of Europe 2006. This award is being handed out by the European association for flowers and landscaping with its headquarters located at Brussels, explained the mayor of Opatija Amir Muzur at today's press conference.

Opatija was nominated along with 11 other countries and it will be visited by the official jury towards the end of June. The final mark will depend upon the quality of the surroundings, the development of tourism, the communication level between the local government, the citizens and the representatives of the media. 

In the upcoming Eastern period, the city of Opatija is expecting around 3.200 tourists and the larger area approximately 3.700 tourists.
The whole county will probably register almost 10.600 guests, mostly from Germany, Italy and Austria.

According to official data, the Kvarner region is expecting in 2006 an increase of 1% in tourist arrivals and a 2% increase in overnight stays. Hotel objects all over the county will be reconstructed with help of an investment in the value of HRK 1.5 billion. The Kvarner tourist office presented today new marketing material – the tourist info brochures ' Kvarner Info 2006', 'Healthy Holidays at the Kvarner' and 'Kvarner Restaurants and Taverns’.
