The island of Rab wins international award for sustainable development

The northern Adriatic island of Rab is the first Croatian community to have received the QualityCoast award of the European organization Coastal and Marine Union for sustainable development, the Rab Tourist Board said earlier this week.

The Coastal and Marine Union is a European Union project established through cooperation among 11 member-countries and its purpose is to build an international network of coastal destinations sharing the same values and practices in sustainable tourism development, the local tourist board said, adding that the award would help Rab join the organization’s international promotional campaigns.

Rab is the first and only Croatian coastal destination and the only coastal destination in this part of Europe to have joined the Coastal and Marine Union and to have won its QualityCoast award.

Officials of the local tourist board were presented with the award at a ceremony held in Gijon, Spain, on May 20.
