Tourism and Sports Minister Tonči Glavina discussed on Monday, with the tourism sector and the leadership of several towns and municipalities on the island of Hvar, the challenges of sustainable tourism development and ensuring the quality of life for the local population, the ministry said.
"In addition to preserving Hvar's tourism product, our goal is to ensure that the quality of life for the local population is not compromised, notably in terms of infrastructure, housing, and managing natural resources. We are working on extending the tourist season and developing year-round tourism product, which is part of our broader strategy for sustainable development. Our most important goal is to develop year-round tourism," said the minister.
Spartan World Championship 2024 held on 10-13 Oct
In addition to its rich tourism product, Hvar is expanding its sports content, and this year the government co-financed the Spartan World Championship 2024 with €1.5 million, further supporting sports as an important segment of year-round tourism offerings, he said.
"More than 2,500 competitors from 36 countries participated in the Spartan World Championship. I'm glad this event demonstrates that it's possible to organise events outside of the summer season that will attract tourists to Hvar, thereby strengthening its position on the international tourism map, while also bringing sports closer to the local population," added Glavina.
