Tourism and Sports Minister Tonči Glavina will be in Germany on Friday and Saturday to attend a Croatian Tourist Board (HTZ) promotional event in Neuruppin ahead of the start of the European Football Championship and a match between Croatia and Spain in Berlin.
Neuruppin is our national team's base, so we will present our eno-gastronomy, historical, and cultural attractions there and use the championship to draw additional attention to Croatia as a tourist destination and a sports nation, motivating new visits, not only by German tourists but by all coming to the championship who, due to Croatia's vicinity, may choose it as an additional destination to visit, the minister said.
"We can see how much the success of our footballers contributes to the promotion of Croatia from the indicators of past major competitions when, during the World Cups in Russia and Qatar, the word 'Croatia' was among the most searched terms on Google, and the increase in visits to the Croatian Tourist Board's website was up by 200%, which was reflected on tourist demand and bookings," Glavina said.
"We wish our national team much success and hope they stay in the tournament for as long as possible. We will continue to support them, currently through cheering, but also concretely through all activities whereby the government supports and will continue to support Croatian sports," he added.
At the city gallery in Neuruppin, the HTZ will open an exhibition called "Experience Croatia". Croatia's coastal tourist regions and the diversity of Croatia's eno-gastronomy will be presented at the main city square, while sculptures of notable Croatian figures, such as inventor Nikola Tesla, explorer Marco Polo, basketball player Dražen Petrović, sculptor Ivan Meštrović, mathematician Ruđer Bošković, and engineer Slavoljub Penkala, will be placed at busy locations in the city.
