Rijeka Tourist Board presents new exhibition space at Trsat Castle

The City of Rijeka Tourist Board on Wednesday presented a new exhibition space at Trsat Castle and a new virtual tourist guide at the final conference of the European project "Emoundergrounds",  worth about €2.6 million.

The project is co-financed by the Interreg V-B Adriatic-Ionian programme of transnational cooperation 2014-2020, which connects ten partners from seven countries. The partners from Croatia are the Rijeka Tourist Board and the Public Institution in Culture Fortress of Culture Šibenik.

The exhibition space at Trsat has been enriched with new interpretive content that gives visitors a new experience and enables them to explore the castle using innovative technology.

The exhibition is divided in three parts -- an interactive screen allows visitors to explore the castle using 3D images of the historical development of the construction, the second chamber introduces visitors to the interesting features of Trsat Castle and prepares them for the third, where Trsat Castle is presented from a new perspective through an educational video.

A mobile application is also available, and it guides visitors through 12 interpretation points, each of which reveals a new layer of Trsat Castle and lesser known facts about it.

Rijeka Tourist Board Director Petar Škarpa said that such content attracted more tourists and that project succeeded in reviving a part of the forgotten history and culture of Trsat Castle in an innovative way, using new technologies.

The aim of the project Emoundergrounds is to promote the sustainable valorisation of natural and cultural heritage in the Adriatic-Ionian area with the support of cultural and creative industries, innovative forms of interpretation, as well as to increase the attractiveness and competitiveness of the included tourist destinations.
