Examples of good practice in the development of tourism projects that focus on digital and green transitions

Tourism represents one of the fastest growing economy sectors of today, and its power to transform is a source of positive examples for society and economy in its whole. By applying correct policies, tourism can contribute to the preservation of nature and cultural heritage, incense economic growth, development of local communities and creating of new jobs.

The Republic of Croatia has been granted HRK 2.2 billion from the EU Recovery and Resilience Mechanism for tourism through the subcomponent 1.6 - Developing sustainable, innovative and resilient tourism, which covers the reform of the tourist sector though investments that contribute to a green and/or digital transition and social sustainability of tourism.

The funds that are available provide a great opportunity for a long-term sustainable and more efficient development of Croatian tourism, whose success is based on continuous improvement, modernisation and pursuit of excellency that implies the need for innovation.

For that, we need an exchange of knowledge and experience, examples of good practice that will help us to further build Croatian tourism and make it even more competitive.

Summary of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NPOO) in terms of tourism

The National Recovery and Resilience Plan gives an opportunity for further transformation of Croatian tourism to a tourism whose principles reside on sustainability, green and digital, i.e., a tourism of the future, for which HRK 2,2 billion was ensured.
 
Through its subcomponent 1.6 - Developing sustainable, innovative and resilient tourism, the EU Recovery and Resilience Mechanism for tourism granted to the Republic of Croatia funds in the amount of HRK 930 million for regional diversification and specialization of Croatian tourism through investing in the development of high value-added tourism products intended for the public sector.

Furthermore, funds in the amount higher than HRK 1,2 billion were granted for the strengthening the sustainability and encouraging green and digital transition of entrepreneurs in the tourism sector that is intended for the private sector. Funds for the private sector are intended for small and medium-sized entrepreneurs, for the transformation of private renters into tourism entrepreneurs, and for encouraging the clustering of activities, research and development in companies along the entire tourism and hospitality value chain.
