The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is a forum where governments compare and exchange political experiences, point out good practices in light of new challenges and promote decisions and recommendations that should contribute to better policies to create better-living conditions. The mission of OECD is to promote policies that improve economic and social well-being of people all around the world.
The Republic of Croatia has been participating in the Tourism Committee since we joined the EU in 2013, and The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has been participating in the Working Group on Tourism Statistics since 2021.
The OECD Tourism Committee was established in 1948 and it acts as a forum for exchanging and monitoring policies and structural changes that affect the development of local and international tourism. It actively promotes a government approach that would support a sustainable economic growth of tourism.
Every two years, the Tourism Committee publishes a very important issue entitled “Tourism policies and trends” that analyses tourism results and trends of tourism policies in approx. 50 members and non-members of the OECD.
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Croatia regularly participates in the preparation of the said publication. The 2022 edition will focus on sustainable, green and more resilient tourism.
The Tourism Committee regularly publishes research and reports that deal with particular tourism policies that are available to every member of the Committee. In addition to policies, it mainly focuses on topics such as statistics, innovation, sustainability and skills. The complete literature is available
here.
For Croatia, the accession to OECD will represent an important instrument for further development and improvement of new, innovative approaches that will enable international comparison of data and the exchange of experiences with other tourist countries.
