Brnjac talks epidemiological measures with tourism sector reps in Slavonia

Minister of Tourism and Sports Nikolina Brnjac met in Osijek on Tuesday with representatives of the tourism sector from five Slavonian counties and members of local COVID-19 response team for talks on epidemiological measures.

"After the meeting in Split-Dalmatia County regarding epidemiological measures in the tourism season, today we discussed them with representatives of the tourism sector in five Slavonian counties and local COVID-19 response teams to see how they are implementing the measures. We know that the Osijek Summer of Culture festival is beginning and it is important that it serves as an example of compliance with epidemiological measures. We are being very cautious because we know the Delta variant is in Croatia and that is why we are conducting these meetings," said Brnjac.

According to Brnjac, all the necessary steps have been taken for the tourism season to begin, from procuring antigen tests, setting up testing stations for tourists and prioritising inoculation for workers in the tourism sector.

Today we heard some good results from our promotional campaign for the rural part of Croatia and domestic tourists and we expect a good post-season in Slavonia in September and October, she said.

Asked about the shortage of accommodation in Osijek-Baranja County when bigger events are organised, the minister explained that a tour of counties would be organised to inform tourism stakeholders of financing opportunities in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan so they are ready when applications are invited.

According to the eVisitor platform, since the start of this year 58,000 people have visited the five Slavonian counties, an increase of 4%, generating 141,000 bed nights, 17% more year on year.

Osijek-Baranja deputy county head Mato Lukić said that a lot of events are planned and today's talks discussed ways to implement epidemiological measures at these events.
