Croatia wins Medical Tourism Destination Award at ITB Berlin virtual trade show

Croatia was awarded at this week's ITB Berlin, the world's leading travel trade show, as a destination that provides innovative and sustainable medical tourism services, which is why over 250,000 tourists visit it annually, the National Tourist Board (HTZ) said on Thursday.

The ITB Medical Tourism Destination Award was presented at ITB Berlin for the first time, with the support of the international Health Tourism Industry (HTI) Conference, and the HTZ, which together with its partners this year participated in a virtual ITB trade show, underscored that the organisers of the award ceremony had recognised Croatia as an innovative and sustainable destination which provided its guests with a high level of experience and services in the field of medical tourism.

The award was accepted by the director of the HTZ'a German office, Romeo Draghicchio, who said that it would be an additional motivation in the further development of medical tourism in Croatia.

In a statement, Draghicchio said that partners from the German market had said that they expected a better tourist season than last year because they had been noticing an increase in interest in travel in Germany since February compared to previous months.

They are especially interested in selling travel packages for the Easter holidays and spring, with an emphasis on Istria, he said.

HTZ director Kristjan Staničić also underscored the traditional importance of the German market for Croatian tourism, which is why, he said, it was important to take part in the virtual ITB because that maintained market visibility and business contacts.

ITB Berlin NOW took place in a virtual setting on 9-12 March, and in addition to the HTZ, another 18 tourist companies, boards and carriers presented Croatia's tourist offer. (Hina)
