HUT welcomes agreement on movement of travellers within EU

The Croatian Tourism Association (HUT) on Tuesday welcomed the EU-wide agreement on measures restricting free movement due to the coronavirus pandemic, saying that restrictions from now on wouldbe more clear and predictable.

"We welcome the adoption of the common European recommendations as a precondition for the overall conduct of tourism traffic in the European Union," HUT director Veljko Ostojic said, adding that a regional approach is one of the key prerequisites for the successful organisation of movement of people and the fight against the pandemic.

The association particularly welcomed the recommendation that information on any new measures concerning travellers should be made public 24 hours before their entry into force.

HUT noted that a common colour-coded map, produced by the European Centre for Disease Control (ECDC), would be available to all travellers. The map will provide information, based on common criteria and updated on a weekly basis, on the epidemiological situation in all regions across the EU.

Member states will be required to provide the ECDC on a weekly basis with information on the number of newly-registered coronavirus cases per 100,000 inhabitants over the last 14 days, the number of tests conducted in the past week per 100,000 inhabitants, and the percentage of positive tests in the past week.
