Cro Card introduced to boost consumption in hospitality industry

The government on Wednesday introduced the Cro Card enabling employers to set aside up to HRK 2,500 through that card to their employees for their spending in hospitality industry.

Cro Card can be used in cafes, restaurants, hotels and other providers of hospitality services, and this amount of 2,500 kuna is a part HRK 7,500 in non-taxable benefits which employers can give annually to their workers.

Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli said that this card could help boost consumption in the national hospitality industry.

Cro Card is a debit card, and is introduced as a measure within the fourth round of tax reform aimed at easing the tax burden.

In 2019 non-taxable benefits for workers over HRK 1.76 billion

Finance Minister Zdravko Maric said that in 2018, 1.25 billion had been paid in tax-free benefits to a total of 490,000 employees.

This year, those non-taxable benefits increased to HRK 1.76 billion plus 500 million in tax-free allocations for food and accommodation of workers.

"Those are strong incentives of the tax policy, primarily for private enterprises," Maric said.
