Croatian's National Tourist Board to open office in Madrid in 2020

The Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ) plans to open an office in Madrid at the beginning of 2020 due to growing interest by Spanish tourists to visit Croatia and also because the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has its headquarters in Madrid. HTZ made the announcement after HTZ Director-General Kristjan Stanicic met with UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili, who is currently visiting Zagreb where the 64th Meeting of the UNWTO Commission for Europe and Workshop on Growth, Innovation and Partnership is currently being held.

I think that this is the right moment to open your office in Madrid, Pololikashvili said and offered full support in the process.

HTZ plans to open the Madrid office in January, just ahead of the largest tourism fair in Spain - FITUR.

"That office is especially important because UNWTO has its head office there but also due to the growing number of Spanish tourists in Croatia. In 2018 about 290,000 came, who generated more than 640,000 bed nights, which is an increase of 13% compared to 2017," Stanicic underscored, adding that the Spanish market is important due to its connections with South American countries.

Stanicic and Pololikashvili discussed innovations in tourism, air transport, thematical promotions of tourism products, such as eno-gastronomy. Pololikashvili invited a delegation from Croatia to attend 4th UNWTO Global Conference on Wine Tourism that will be held in Chile in December.

The talks also focused on air connectivity between Zagreb and Madrid and better connectivity between Spain and Croatia and between Croatia and China as both officials see this as a strategically important and highly potential market for Croatian and global tourism. (Hina/FaH)
