Zagreb Tourism Board: Tourist season in Zagreb starts well

In the first three months of 2019 the city of Zagreb registered 405,300 overnight stays, the most of all destinations in Croatia and an increase of 1% from the same period of 2017, Zagreb Tourism Board (TZGZ) head Martina Bienenfeld has said. The capital city is also recording positive trends in April and expects them to continue until the end of the year, Bienenfeld said.

"In March, too, we had an 8% increase in the number of bed nights, and the average number of days spent by visitors in Zagreb has increased to two. In the first half of April, the total number of overnight stays since the start of the year increased to close to 500,000, a rise of 2%," Bienenfeld told Hina.

City break campaigns, health tourism, summer and autumn programmes

Bienenfeld confirmed that an increasing number of tourists were visiting Zagreb owing to its ever growing reputation as a city break destination, announcing that her office would promote Zagreb this year via online and offline campaigns.

"A campaign is underway for the InMusic festival on the Austrian market as organisers consider Austria a target market, taking into consideration the attractiveness of performers, the proximity of the festival and prices. A health tourism promotion campaign is being prepared considering the quality of health care in Zagreb, marked by an exceptional concentration of competence, top-quality service providers and affordable prices. That campaign will focus on the German market for which experts have established that it shows the greatest interest, including the Croatian diaspora," Bienenfeld said.

The Zagreb Summer Tour campaign will promote Zagreb as a city of culture, accessible and fun, living in the open in summer time - in the streets, on terraces, lakes and in parks, with various open-air festivals, picnics and exhibitions. The campaign will target neighbouring countries as well as Germany, Austria, Ireland, Great Britain, France, Portugal, Spain and Scandinavia.

A special campaign promoting Zagreb as the cultural capital of Croatia is to be launched by the end of the year as well, and the Zagreb Tourism Board will this year also focus on cultural programmes for the autumn, Bienenfeld said.

She cited results of an extensive survey conducted in 2017 and 2018 and covering about 2,000 respondents who visited Zagreb, noting that the survey showed visitors had an exceptionally positive opinion about the city.

The respondents assessed as very good the hospitality of staff in accommodation facilities, the feeling of safety, the overall experience and the value for money ratio in accommodation facilities. They most often describe Zagreb as a very clean and beautiful city with available tourist information.

Among those who visited Zagreb in December, 93% visited the Advent in Zagreb event, saying that it motivated them to visit Zagreb once more in the next 12 months. Close to 90% said they would recommend visiting Zagreb to their friends. (Hina)
