2017 current account surplus EUR 1.9 bn euros; record tourism revenue of EUR 9.5 bnLast year Croatia achieved a surplus in the current account balance of payments of 1.9 billion euros, which is HRK 695 million more than in 2016, and despite a big deficit in foreign trade, the surplus was mostly a result of positive trends in the services account, particularly tourism, which generated a record revenue of 9.5 billion euros, the latest data released by the Croatian National Bank (HNB) indicate. According to the information HNB released on Friday, the surplus in the capital account last year amounted to 237 million euros so that balance of the current and capital account indicates a surplus of 2.14 billion euros. 30.03.2018. | News
European parliament recommends establishment of financial line for tourismThe European Parliament has made a recommendation to the European Commission's Economic and Financial Committee for the establishment of a special financial line for tourism in the next multi-annual financial framework, Croatia's Tourism Ministry reported on Thursday, considering this to be a sign of support for Croatia and Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli's initiative for setting up such a financial line. "In its report the European Parliament has recommended to the European Commission Economic and Financial Committee to form a special financial line for tourism in the Multiannual Financial Framework for the period after 2020. The EP emphasised the importance of a single European tourism policy, underscoring that it can significantly contribute to growth and job creation in the EU," the ministry said. 29.03.2018. | News
Leading hotels expect high occupancy for EasterLeading hotel companies in Croatia are satisfied with bookings ahead of the Easter holiday and expect a high occupancy. Most of them expect to open their hotels in April with somewhat higher prices compared to last year due to investments in raising the quality of their accommodation. "Vukovar - Vucedol - Ilok" awarded EDEN prize in Brussels"Vukovar - Vucedol - Ilok" is one of 18 European destinations - recipients of the EDEN prize confirming the excellency of these destinations for cultural tourism, the Croatian National Tourism Board (HTZ) reported on Friday. The EDEN - European Destinations of Excellence for 2017 were presented in Brussels on Thursday evening and all 18 destinations were also national winners in that category in each of their respective countries. Minister expects 7% rise in tourist trade in 2018Croatia's Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli said on Friday that tourist trade would likely increase by 7% this year, with some destinations probably seeing double digit increases to up to 20%, however, the situation in the infrastructure could make the forthcoming tourist season more complex. "That would mean some 20 million tourists, with over 11 billion euros in revenues. However, the current state of affairs in the infrastructure will make the season more complex in organisational and other terms," Cappelli said, addressing a conference of the UHPA, a voluntary national trade association of Croatian travel agencies in the coastal town of Crikvenica. 23.03.2018. | News
Tourists visiting Rijeka on cruise ships spend EUR 25 on average per dayTourists visiting the northern Adriatic city of Rijeka on cruise ships spend an average of EUR 25 a day and 85% of them are satisfied which what Rijeka has to offer, according to a survey on the spending habits of passengers and crew members on cruise ships carried out by the Rijeka Maritime Faculty.
