Croatia among top five travel destinations on US marketCroatia is among the top five travel destinations on the US market at this year's New York Times Travel Show, which took place from January 25 to 27, the chairman of the Croatian Tourism Board  (HTZ), Kristjan Stanicic, said. The show attracted over 560 exhibitors, including 170 representatives of national tourism boards from around the world, and over 30,000 potential travellers and representatives of the tourism sector. Croatian yacht charter companies attending New York Times Travel ShowFive Croatian yacht charter companies, backed by the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK), are among more than 600 exhibitors from over 170 countries at this year's New York Times Travel Show, the largest travel show in North America which is taking place from January 25 to 27, the HGK said on Saturday. The five companies - Nautika centar Nava, SunLife Charter, Adriatic Cruising, Phoebus and Nauticki centar Pina i Mare - have formed the Croatia Charter Experience group to present their services on the American market and "to promote Croatia as a perfect holiday and sailing destination," said Dragana Buzdovacic of SunLife Charter. 26.01.2019. | News
​Croatian Tourism Board wins award for best promotional video at Madrid travel showThe Croatian Tourism Board (HTZ) won an award for best promotional video in competition with 58 videos presented by 11 countries at the Fitur international travel show in Madrid on Friday, the HTZ said. The video "Croatia, Full of Life" was promoted on the Spanish market under the title Los Embajadores del Turismo Croata, or Ambassadors of Croatian Tourism. It features footballers Luka Modric, Ivan Rakitic, Mario Mandzukic, Dejan Lovren and Mateo Kovacic, tennis player Marin Cilic, basketball player Dario Saric, painist Maksim Mrvica and the duo 2Cellos. 26.01.2019. | News
​Hydrocarbon exploration in Dinaric Alps won't hurt tourism, minister saysEnvironmental Protection and Energy Minister Tomislav Coric said in Split on Friday the planned exploration of hydrocarbons in the Dinaric Alps would not affect the development of Croatian tourism. "Such exploration should not and there's no reason for it to harm tourism," he said responding to questions from the press. He met with representatives of Sibenik-Knin, Zadar, Lika-Senj and Karlovac countries in Sibenik on Thursday, when it was officially announced that a public tender will be advertised soon for licences for oil and gas exploration in the Dinarides. 25.01.2019. | News
​Eurostat: Number of nights spent in the EU and Croatia up in 2018In 2018, the number of nights spent in tourist accommodation establishments in the European Union (EU) is expected to have reached more than 3.1 billion, up by 2.2% compared with 2017. In 2018, Spain (467 million nights, -0.9% compared with 2017) retained its lead, ahead of France (444 mn,+2.4%), Italy (429 mn, +1.9%) and Germany (419 mn, +4.3%), while Croatia recorded an increase of 3.9% with 89.4 million overnights. These early estimates, which include nights spent whether for business or leisure, come from an article issued by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. 24.01.2019. | News
​Employers in tourism industry glad to be able to hire pensionersThe Croatian Tourism Association (HUT) supports the possibility of of hiring of retirees for four hours a day, who still are paid their full pension under this employment scheme. The HUT association says in a press release on Tuesday that many jobs in the tourism sector could be performed by senior citizens who want to and are able to work after being retired. This opportunity can also facilitate a better preparation of the peak season. 22.01.2019. | News
Cavtat nominated for European Best Destination 2019The southern Croatian coastal town of Cavtat has been nominated for the title of Europe's best destination in 2019, according to the European Best Destinations website, the Konavle municipal tourist board has said. Voting for the favourite European destination is taking place from January 15 to February 5. Nominees include Paris, London and Rome. Alongside the European Best Destination 2019 nomination, the website has ranked Cavtat among the best romantic destinations and the best destinations for nature lovers in Europe. 21.01.2019. | News
​Number of passengers on foreign cruise ships in Jan-Nov 2018 up 9.11%A total of 677 visits by foreign cruise ships were recorded in the Croatian Adriatic in the first eleven months of 2018, the same as in the corresponding period of 2017, according to data released by the national statistical office. The ships brought 9.1% more passengers than in 2017, or 1.02 million in total.
