CLASSIFICATION OF PORTS FOR NAUTICAL TOURISM IN CROATIA

 

 

I            LEGAL GROUND FOR CLASSIFICATION

Classification of ports of nautical tourism in Croatia is  carried out pursuant to  the Tourism Industry Law ("Official Gazette" 8/96, 19/96 and  76/98) and the Regulation on Classification and Categorization of  Ports for Nautical Tourism ("Official  Gazetteģ, no. 142/99, 47/00, 121/00 and  45/01).

 

II         TYPES OF PORTS FOR  NAUTICAL TOURISM

Ports for nautical tourism are classified  per type. The type is being determined by the type of services rendered at a certain port. Each type of the port for nautical tourism, depending on the rendered services, must comply with prescribed minimal and special standards regarding its construction, appearance and equipment.

 

Ports for nautical tourism are classified as :

-         anchorage

-         mooring

-         dry storage marinas

-         marinas

 

Ports for nautical tourism must comply with minimal conditions prescribed by thereabove mentioned  Regulation, unless  differently prescribed for a certain port by the same Regulation. Minimal conditions are regulated as general and special minimal conditions.

 

General minimal conditions refer to:

-         proper operation and functioning of appliances/installation and equipment

-         electric energy supply

-         supply of sanitary safe water

-         basic services offered in the port (use of telephone, facilities for refuse and waste materials disposal , warden and reception service)

-         premises for personal hygiene of tourists - boaters

-         facilities and equipment for environmental protection

-         fire safety

-         personnel

-         rooms for personal hygiene of personnel

 

Special minimal conditions must be satisfied by some ports for nautical tourism depending on its type, and they refer to:

-         obligatory structure of installation and equipment

-         minimum of basic services that must be offered

-         minimum additional services (shops, catering etc.) that a port must provide for its tourists-boaters.

 

Ports for nautical tourism belonging to the type anchorage, mooring and dry storage marina,  in order to be classified, must comply with general minimal conditions and special minimal conditions. These types of ports for nautical tourism are not being categorized.

 

 

III            CATEGORIZATION  OF MARINAS

Ports for nautical tourism classified as "marinas"  must be categorized.

 

CATEGORY is the designation /mark of the port for nautical tourism, type marina.

 

Marinas are categorized into three categories.

 

-         I category denotes marinas of the highest standard

-         II category denotes marinas of the medium standard

-         III category denotes marinas of the lowest standard

 

The assignment of  category  to a marina depends on the compliance with the conditions prescribed in the Regulation for each category and it depends on : the quality of facilities and equipment, standard of basic services, diversity of  additional services that are offered to tourist-boaters at the marina , as well as  other services and facilities being at disposal to tourists-boaters in the immediate vicinity of the marina and the quality of maintenance of the marina as a whole.

 

 

IV            PRESENT STATE OF CATEGORIZATION

Since publication of the Regulation on Classification of the Ports for Nautical Tourism in  1996, the Ministry of Tourism has categorized all the marinas that have submitted their requests to be categorized.
