Zagorje registers record high tourist arrivals and nights in 2023

Krapina-Zagorje County received 190,456 tourists in 2023, who made 402,061 overnight stays  last year, which was by 8.26% and 8.98% more respectively than in 2022, local authorities have said recently.

These stats are even better than the results in the pre-pandemic 2019.

Furthermore, for the first time, the share of foreign travellers exceeded the share of Croatians visiting this northwestern region.

In 2023, of those 190,456 guests, 51.06% were foreigners and local guests accounted for 48.94%.

Concerning the tourist nights, 52.01% was made by foreigners and 47.99% by Croatian guests.

County Prefect Željko Kolar told a news conference last Friday that all segments of the tourism industry saw a rise.

Our spa centres, or private accommodation facilities, bread and breakfast facilities, campsites, family farms and hotels registered a rise in the arrivals and nights, he said.

He announced more investments which will result in more units for accommodation of tourists in 2025 and 2026.

The top inbound markets for Zagorje are Slovenia, Poland and Germany.
